Council of Ontario Universities - Home

To bring a research focus to important public policy areas in Ontario, eight Chairs were selected as part of the $25 million Ontario Research Chairs in Public Policy program, funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). After a selection process administered by COU, the following scholars are now in place at Ontario’s universities:

• Dr. Scott Davies – Chair in Educational Achievement and At Risk Students, McMaster University
• Dr. Udo Schüklenk – Chair in Bioethics, Queen’s University
• Dr. Anthony Cuyler – Chair in Health Policy and System Design, University of Toronto
• Dr. Andrew Emili – Chair in Biomarkers in Disease Management, University of Toronto
• Dr. Glen Jones – Chair in Postsecondary Education Policy and Measurement, University of Toronto
• Dr. Jatin Nathwani – Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy Management, University of Waterloo
• Dr. William Anderson – Chair in Cross-Border Transportation, University of Windsor
• Dr. Douglas Cumming – Chair in Economics and Cross Cultural Studies, York University

This group came together for a Public Policy Symposium in October 2009, to discuss their work under the broad themes of health, education and economic prosperity and to explore implications for the future of public policy in the province. Another Symposium was hosted by York University on COU’s behalf on March 5 and 6, 2012, which centred on the theme of knowledge translation and addressed ways to strengthen the links between research, policy making and practice to advance the public interest.
