What are universities doing to reduce their environmental footprint?

Ontario university presidents have been driving forward on the greening of their campus since 2009 when they came together to sign a pledge for bold action on the environment. They didn’t just want to talk about environmental sustainability; they wanted measurable results and committed themselves to mandatory reporting on those results every year.

The annual Going Greener report demonstrates the impressive array of programs to reduce their environmental footprints, and highlights the progress on our campuses. For example, there has been a rapid rise of bike-share and car-share programs on campuses, there are smart building technologies that respond to weather changes, and every single campus has been reporting their emissions totals under the new Green Energy Act regulations.
