On May 25, 2011, COU hosted an Innovative Ideas Forum that showcased how Ontario’s Broader Public Sector (BPS) is improving its administrative efficiencies. Experts from Ontario's universities, colleges, hospitals and municipalities discussed and shared best practices used to manage operations in innovative ways and maximize resources, while preserving the quality of services provided and products procured.

Keynote speakers at the Forum included Ron McKerlie, Ontario's Deputy Minister of Government Services, and Leslie Behnke, TD Canada Trust's Vice-President of Process Improvement and Service Quality.

At the Forum, COU launched a report titled Innovative Ideas: Improving Efficiency at Ontario Universities that highlights the innovative practices being employed by Ontario universities to reduce costs and become more efficient in five areas: Streamlining Operational Processes, Innovation and Partnerships, Managing Facilities Efficiently, Making Smart Purchasing Decisions and Planning for Safety.
